TL;DR

Which Shopify migration agency should you hire in 2027?

The right Shopify migration agency depends on your current ecommerce platform, the volume and complexity of the data behind it, and how much of your traffic now comes through AI assistants rather than traditional search results.

  • Why we rank craftberry first: craftberry is a Shopify Premier Partner with 30-plus in-house Shopify experts and a strong track record of delivering zero-downtime migrations, helping brands move to Shopify without disrupting sales or customer access.
  • Who else made the list: nine agencies receive a full review alongside craftberry, Absolute Web, Americaneagle.com, Optimum7, ECORN Agency, Diff Agency, Glass Atlas, Coalition Technologies, Underwaterpistol and Bighorn Web Solutions. Forty more appear in the comparison table, with enough information to help you build a shortlist.
  • How our ranking works: we assessed these agencies against six weighted criteria, published in full, with data integrity and SEO continuity carrying the most weight. No agency paid to appear or improve its position in this ranking.

Key takeaways

  • Read the portfolio for evidence, not polish. An agency's portfolio is the strongest evidence available before you sign. Look beyond the logos and polished storefronts. Search for migrations from your existing platform, at a comparable catalogue size, supported by named brands and verifiable results. A gallery of attractive stores says little about whether an agency can move a decade of order history without data loss.
  • Let your current platform drive the shortlist. Your existing platform should shape your shortlist more than your budget. A Shopware migration, a Salesforce Commerce Cloud migration and a WooCommerce-to-Shopify migration tend to fail in different places, and few agencies have proven experience solving all three.
  • Protect the final cutover window. The final hours before launch are where migrations quietly lose money. A cutover plan that includes a second sync for orders placed during the final migration window is safer than one that assumes the initial data transfer captured everything. A poorly managed migration can result in a 30% to 60% decline in organic traffic during the first three months.
  • Never trust a price set before a database review. Shopify migrations typically cost between $8,000 and more than $250,000, with post-migration support adding $2,500 to $10,000 per month. Any agency that prices a complex migration before examining your database is working from an estimate, and that estimate rarely moves downward.

1 Editor's pick - Best Shopify migration agency for complex migrations

craftberry

Shopify Premier Partner 800+ Shopify projects since 2015 Founder in Forbes 30 Under 30

craftberry specialises in complex Shopify Plus migrations, where protecting years of order history, customer data, organic traffic, SEO equity and operational logic matters more than replacing the storefront.

Since 2015, the agency has delivered more than 800 Shopify and Shopify Plus projects.

Its 30+ in-house specialists and Shopify migration experts cover data migration, ERP and app integrations, custom theme development, internationalisation and CRO, keeping every stage of the migration process under one accountable team.

Strong fit

  • Brands leaving Shopware, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce or a custom cart with real order history
  • Migrations needing ERP, WMS or PIM work
  • Multi-market rollouts
  • Subscription businesses
  • Teams that want the migration partner to stay on afterwards

Not a strong fit when

  • A brand-new or very small store that needs a fast template launch
  • A single-SKU shop with no data, subscription or ERP complexity
  • A Shopify to Shopify theme rebuild, which is a different service
  • A project that needs a team on site in a US timezone
Migrations start from $15k USD (12k EUR / 11k GBP), scoped to your source platform and data complexity.

What stood out most was their ability to create a strong technical and visual foundation for a Shopify brand.

Absolute Web

Adobe Commerce + Shopify Plus

Absolute Web is a certified Adobe Commerce partner as well as a Shopify Plus one, and on a Magento to Shopify Plus move that dual fluency is the point: the hard part is consolidating a store structure built up over a decade and rebuilding custom modules with no Shopify equivalent.

It also publishes honest timelines, 8 to 12 weeks for mid-sized brands and 4 to 6 months for large catalogues, which tells you more than a single fixed number would.

Best for

Magento B2B estates

Weak spot

It runs Magento and Shopify practices side by side rather than committing to one, and its centre of gravity is North America, so multi-market European rollouts are not its home ground.

3

Americaneagle.com

Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce + Shopify Plus

Americaneagle.com handles migrations from Magento, WooCommerce and BigCommerce, plus Shopify to Shopify Plus upgrades.

Its advantage is unfashionable and hard to replicate: it is large enough to absorb an integration stack spanning ERP, PIM, OMS and a warehouse system without subcontracting any of it, which removes the vendor gaps where migrations usually stall.

Best for

ERP, PIM and OMS reconnection. Enterprise retailers whose migration has to stay in step with systems well beyond the storefront.

Weak spot

A very large full-service firm, so the senior attention you get tracks the size of your contract.

4

Optimum7

Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, WooCommerce, Volusion

Optimum7 publishes a separate landing page for each source-to-destination pair rather than one generic migration page.

That is a small tell with a large meaning: a team that has run a route often enough to document it separately has already met that platform's specific failures.

It puts its count at more than a thousand replatforms across Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, WooCommerce and Volusion. Its most recent named move, Posterazzi off BigCommerce in June 2026, ran with a preview engine so the client could inspect the new store before cutover.

Best for

Brands who want a well-worn path off a specific platform rather than a bespoke programme.

Weak spot

Volume-led and SEO-led rather than design-led, and the thousand-plus figure is the agency's own count across all platforms, not Shopify alone.

5

ECORN Agency

Magento to Shopify Plus

ECORN moved a catalogue of more than a million SKUs from Magento to Shopify Plus for CoverKing and built a custom PIM process around the new platform.

Under the 2027 weighting that matters more than it did: catalogue architecture is what decides whether your product data is legible to AI shopping channels after the move, not just whether it imported.

Best for

Brands whose catalogue needs restructuring rather than simply moving.

Weak spot

Smaller than the enterprise programme shops it now sits above.

6

Diff Agency

Enterprise Shopify Plus

Diff builds enterprise Shopify Plus architecture. The storefront rarely delays a launch. Order management, fulfilment rules and the ERP handshake do, and Diff scopes those as engineering, not configuration.

Best for

North American retailers whose migration is really an integration project.

Weak spot

At this size you are unlikely to get standing access to the architects who pitch.

7

Glass Atlas

Magento to Shopify Plus

Glass Atlas launched in 2025 out of a four-way merger of Space 48, Brave the Skies, Bring Digital and This is Digital, and has since added Summit.

What earns it a call on a replatform is the combination it holds in one business: ecommerce engineering next to a top-tier Google and Meta practice. On most migrations those are two suppliers, and when traffic dips in launch week they spend a fortnight blaming each other while the merchant absorbs the loss.

Glass Atlas owns both sides of that argument, which is a structural answer to the risk our second criterion is built around.

Best for

UK and EU retailers leaving Magento who want strategy, build and paid media on one contract.

Weak spot

Four merged agencies and a private-equity owner mean the people on your account may not be the people whose portfolio sold you. Ask which of the original four they came from.

8

Coalition Technologies

Most agencies buy their SEO workstream from someone else, which is why redirect decisions arrive too late to influence URL architecture. Coalition employs the search team beside the developers, a structural advantage on the criterion worth a fifth of our score.

Best for

Brands whose primary migration fear is losing organic traffic.

Weak spot

A high volume of accounts, so the attention will not feel boutique.

9

Underwaterpistol

Recharge Premier Agency Partner

One of the oldest Shopify agencies in the UK, and one of the few here running a standalone replatforming practice rather than migration bolted onto a build service. It is also a Recharge Premier Agency Partner, which matters more than it sounds. Subscription data is the record type most likely to survive a migration in name only, with billing dates and dunning history quietly reset, and a team that lives in Recharge knows where that breaks.

Best for

UK DTC brands with an active subscription programme, moving off WooCommerce or Magento.

Weak spot

At 22 people it is the smallest team in this top 10, so a multi-market enterprise rollout will stretch it.

The bottom line

craftberry is the strongest fit for most mid-market and DTC brands replatforming in 2027.

It is the only agency here that meets six criteria: Shopify-only, in-house migration, ERP and internationalisation, founder-owned since 2015, and Shopify Premier Partner. Verified results with named brands back it up: 500K+ records across 100+ markets for Shelly, 30+ EU markets with zero downtime for FitSpo.

If your move involves real order history, more than one market, or an ERP that has to stay in sync, that is the work we do.

What to ask, from our experience

What to ask a Shopify migration agency

Put the same six questions to every Shopify migration agency on your shortlist. The answers separate the field faster than any portfolio.

1

"Walk me through your migration process, hour by hour at cutover."

You want the catch-up pass for final-day orders described without prompting. If a team cannot explain how it avoids losing the last hours of trading, that is your answer.

2

"Who validates the data after import, and what happens when a record does not match?"

There should be a named reconciliation step with an owner. "We check it looks right" is not one.

3

"Who owns the attribute mapping, and can you show me metafields that survived a migration?"

The 2027 addition. It tells you whether your product data stays legible to search and AI channels.

4

"Name a full migration from my exact platform, at my catalogue size."

Not a Shopify build. A migration, from your source, at your scale. Agencies should demonstrate experience with your exact legacy platform during migration, not adjacent experience they hope transfers.

5

"Which of my integrations have you personally built before?"

Put the whole stack on the table and get ownership line by line.

6

"Who owns this company, and who is on my account in week two?"

Agencies must ensure proper 301 redirects to maintain SEO rankings, but the fortnight after launch is where that work is actually proven or exposed.

Red flags

Walk away from an offer to move stored card credentials, and treat the rest as reasons to slow down:

  • A firm price before anyone has seen inside your database, redirects scheduled as launch-week work.
  • Spreadsheet exports proposed for a catalogue above a few thousand SKUs.
  • No reference from your source platform, a support plan that ends at go-live.
  • An evasive answer to a simple question about who owns the company.

Bighorn Web Solutions

ERP-first Shopify Plus

Bighorn is an ERP-first shop in a category full of design-first ones.

It moved the Blueport sites onto Shopify Plus with full synchronisation back to their STORIS ERP, which is the part of a replatform that quietly decides whether your warehouse and your storefront still agree on stock a week after launch. Most agencies treat that as an integration ticket. Bighorn treats it as the architecture.

Best for

Brands whose migration lives or dies on an ERP or fulfilment integration rather than on the theme.

Weak spot

A small US team with a modest published portfolio, so ask for references at your catalogue size before committing.

By source platform

Shopify migrations by source platform

Magento and Adobe Commerce

From our experience, the real work is deciding which attributes become Shopify options, which become metafields, and which were always a workaround. Get it wrong and you keep the data but lose how you sell.

WooCommerce

The migration we run most often. The work sits in the content, not the products: blog posts, URL structure, long-tail traffic. Reviews and subscriptions live in plugins with separate data models, where store data quietly goes missing.

Proof: ArthroFill and Uberlube.

BigCommerce

From what we have seen, this is the friendliest source here, which is why teams get complacent: records import cleanly, but anything built against the BigCommerce API does not. URL conventions are close enough to tempt a redirect rule instead of a mapped file.

Shopware

These cases are mostly DACH brands, and the hardest variant model here to translate. Shopware properties and Shopify options are not the same idea, so the mapping is a design decision, not a lookup table, and every extra market multiplies it.

Shelly project: 500K+ customer records, an SAP back office, 100+ markets.

Custom and legacy carts

No two are alike, so our team has noticed field mapping is the entire project and generic tooling gets you partway. This is where custom scripts and purpose-built connectors earn their cost.

Proof: The Fashion Project and Batch'd.

Frequently asked

Shopify migration FAQ

How much does a Shopify migration cost in 2027?

Between roughly $8,000 and $250,000 or more, and the spread is not arbitrary. Three variables set your number: how many records you hold, how many systems have to keep talking to the store, and how much of your current functionality has no Shopify equivalent. Apps sit well below that range because they solve only the first variable.

How do I migrate to Shopify without losing SEO?

Improper URL mapping can destroy Google rankings. Keep URL structures wherever the existing platform allows, carry titles, meta descriptions and structured data across rather than regenerating them, and run a 404 and index-coverage pass in Google Search Console in the fortnight after launch.

In 2027 add a fifth item: decide which source attributes become Shopify options and which become metafields, because that data now determines whether AI shopping channels can read your products. Where this is done properly, SEO rankings typically recover within 30-60 days post-migration.

Will a migration affect whether my products appear in AI shopping channels?

It can. Shopify syndicates eligible products into ChatGPT, Copilot, Google's AI Mode and Gemini through Agentic Storefronts, and those surfaces read structured attributes and real-time pricing. If a migration flattens your attribute set or drops metafields, the channel has less to work with. Keep attribute mapping in scope and check it after import like any other record type.

How long does a Shopify migration take?

A straightforward migration to Shopify typically takes 4 to 12 weeks. A Shopify Plus migration with custom integrations runs 8 to 16 weeks, and enterprise Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud or SAP estates run three to eight months. The variable people underestimate is their own approval cycle, not the engineering.

We build a buffer into Shopify Plus timelines so the new Shopify store is tested in live conditions ahead of peak trading rather than during it.

Should I hire an agency, a freelancer, or use a migration app?

Think of it as three different risk profiles rather than three price points:

  • An app is a data tool and leaves every judgement call to you.
  • A freelancer is fine on a bounded move and is one illness away from a stalled launch on an unbounded one.
  • An agency costs the most and is the only option that carries the whole thing, which starts to matter once real traffic, real order history and a live integration stack are on the line.
What happens if the migration goes wrong?

SEO preservation is crucial during migration to avoid revenue drops. Migration errors can cause a 30% organic traffic drop in the first three months, and revenue follows traffic.

The failures are rarely dramatic: an undocumented integration, a custom feature nobody uses until quarter-end, a redirect rule buried in server config. None of it is inevitable. A well-planned migration can preserve revenue and improve customer experience, which is why we open every migration project with an audit of the current platform rather than a design kickoff.

What data can be migrated to Shopify?

Treat the following as baseline scope: products, variants, collections, customers, order history, pages, blog content and SEO fields. Reviews, gift cards and store credit are usually achievable too, though reviews often live in a third-party app with its own export path.

Subscriptions rarely import straight and generally need a platform-specific process. Payment credentials are never migrated: customers re-enter them, in line with PCI DSS.

Do I need Shopify Plus to migrate?

No. Standard Shopify plans are a legitimate destination and many brands upgrade later without drama. Either way, Shopify offers a user-friendly interface for easier management, so your team stops queueing behind a developer to change a price.

The case for going straight to Plus is avoiding a second project: if checkout extensibility, native B2B, multi-storefront or high-volume API access are already on your roadmap, you will pay for that migration twice. In our experience the question gets serious somewhere around $1M in revenue.

Does it matter who owns my Shopify agency?

It is not a verdict, but it is information. Ownership shapes who leads your account, which segments the company prioritises and where its roadmap points. Several familiar Shopify names now sit inside private-equity groups, holding companies or IT-services firms. Get the current parent entity in writing and confirm your type of project is still a priority.

Methodology

How we evaluated 50 Shopify migration agencies

Our own results come from internal craftberry project data, public case studies and reviews.

Everything about other migration agencies comes from public information: the company's website, their Shopify Partner Directory listing, their Clutch profile, and their published case studies.

Figures were checked in August 2026 and we re-verify this page annually.

Weight Criterion What we looked for
25% Data integrity and reconciliation Validated data migration of products, variants, customer data, orders, subscriptions and reviews, with a counted check against source after import.
20% Search and AI-channel continuity Proper 301 redirects are crucial to maintain SEO rankings, so we looked for a map built and tested before go-live, preserved URLs, migrated meta descriptions, structured data intact, and post migration monitoring in Google Search Console.
20% Source-platform depth Repeat delivery from your existing platform, not Shopify builds in general. Enterprise platforms count double here.
15% Integration and operational continuity ERP, WMS, PIM, payment gateways, inventory management and third party app integrations owned in-house, and whether the team is still there in week two.
10% Ownership and team continuity Who owns the company now, and whether the Shopify experts you meet in the pitch are the people who deliver.
10% Partner tier and verifiable track record Shopify Partner, Plus or Premier status, years in market, named enterprise merchants at your scale.
