TL;DR

  • If you're migrating from Adobe Commerce, 2027 is a key planning year. Adobe will stop maintaining Cloud environments running unsupported versions from 1 June 2027, making migration planning increasingly time-sensitive.
  • A Shopify migration is more than a platform switch. Your cost depends on how much business logic, data, integrations, and SEO infrastructure need to be rebuilt on Shopify platform.
  • Most agency-run migrations take 4 to 6 weeks for a standard replatform, 8 to 12 weeks for a mid-market brand, and 3 to 6 months for a complex enterprise project. A self-managed move on a small store can be done in 2 to 4 weeks.

Key Takeaways

  • Two quotes for the same Shopify migration can differ by three times, and it is almost never greed. The reason is simple. "Migration" describes four different projects, and many agencies never explain which one they are pricing
  • The four migration tiers below reflect how we scope projects. Each tier builds on the previous one. Nobody buys Tier 3 without paying for the work included in Tier 1.
  • That distinction explains why Shopify migration costs range from $15,000 to $250,000+. Small store migrations typically cost between $5,000 and $15,000, mid-market migrations usually fall between $15,000 and $75,000, and enterprise migrations start around $75,000 and can exceed $200,000 due to complexity.
  • The pricing data below comes from first-party migration projects. We use it to benchmark new estimates against completed projects with a similar scope, complexity, and business model.
Methodology

How we built this Shopify migration cost benchmark

To build this benchmark, we combined four data sources:

  • 1

    Published market pricing

We reviewed publicly available Shopify migration cost guides from agencies and marketplaces to understand the pricing ranges the market publishes. Where sources used different scopes, we compared the project details rather than averaging the numbers.

  • 2

    Vendor pricing data

We verified platform-related costs directly from vendor sources, including Shopify plans, Shopify Plus pricing, migration tools, and supporting apps.

  • 3

    Market rate data

We reviewed published rate data to understand current development cost ranges and how they compare with full-service migration projects.

  • 4

    craftberry first-party migration data

We used craftberry's completed Shopify migration projects to validate how scope, integrations, data complexity, and business requirements affect real project costs.

These benchmarks are based on real migration scopes. craftberry's Shopify migration service helps brands assess data complexity, rebuild critical functionality, and plan a Shopify migration approach before development begins.

How much does a Shopify migration cost in 2027?

Migration cost depends less on the size of your product catalogue and more on technical complexity. The biggest cost drivers are the number of connected systems, the size of your indexed URL footprint, and how much platform-specific functionality needs to be rebuilt on Shopify.

Shopify migrations with craftberry start from $15,000 USD (€12,000 / Ā£11,000), with final scope based on your source platform, data complexity, integrations, and business requirements.

To make pricing more predictable, we group Shopify migrations into four project types. Each one represents a different level of technical complexity, business risk, implementation effort, and project scope.

Migration type What is in scope Indicative range Timeline
1. Standard replatform Products, customer data, historical order data, redirects, tracking. Theme adapted rather than built from scratch. No ERP, no subscriptions. $15,000 to $35,000 4 to 6 weeks
2. Migration plus custom build Everything above, plus custom theme development with merchant-editable sections and a UX redesign of the buying journey. $35,000 to $75,000 8 to 12 weeks
3. Migration plus integrations Everything above, plus ERP or back-office connection, custom Shopify Functions replacing platform-specific discount and bundle logic, subscription data, review migration. $75,000 to $200,000 12 to 20 weeks
4. Enterprise multi-market Everything above, plus multiple markets, currencies, tax and duty handling, B2B catalogues, large data volume, phased launch. $200,000+ 3 to 6 months

Migration timelines depend on scope. A straightforward migration typically takes 4 to 6 weeks, a basic migration 8 to 12 weeks, a mid-market project 12 to 20 weeks, and a complex enterprise migration 3 to 6 months.

Real-world projects follow the same timelines.

We launched a Shopify Plus store for On Running UAE market in 11 weeks, including a Gadget integration layer with MuleSoft.

We also delivered three European Shopify storefronts for vivo in 8 weeks.

In both cases, meeting the deadline came from defining the right scope early.

"A migration is a data-integrity problem before it's a design problem. The design is what people see; the data is what makes or breaks the business you're paying to protect."
- Preslav Nikov, founder of craftberry

Which migration method should you use?

There are three ways to migrate to Shopify, and each comes with a different cost, level of risk, and implementation effort.

Migration method What it costs Best for Trade-off
Manual migration Free, plus your team's hours Small catalogues, clean store data Manual migration uses CSV files for data transfer through the Shopify admin. Fine for products, poor for order history, subscription data and metafields
Third-party migration apps ~$20 to $200 per 30 days (Matrixify, 6 Aug 2026) Mid-market stores with structured data Third-party migration apps automate data transfer, but they do not decide what maps to what. The data mapping is still yours to get right
Professional Shopify migration $15,000 to $250,000+ Complex data, ERP, multiple markets Hiring a Shopify expert is recommended for complex migrations. Shopify migration services price judgment on data mapping, redirects, and custom code, not the tooling

The right migration approach depends on your data complexity, integrations, and risk tolerance. Manual exports and migration apps can work well for straightforward stores, but they do not replace the decisions required around data structure, SEO preservation, and custom functionality.

One update worth noting. For years the standard advice was simple: Shopify's Store Importer app is a free migration tool. That is no longer true. The app is no longer available on the Shopify App Store, so if a migration guide still recommends it, that guide has not been updated.

Shopify's current documentation points merchants to CSV imports or working with a Shopify Partner for more complex migrations.

The same applies to themes. If your current store still supports your business goals, a theme from the Shopify Theme Store can reduce upfront costs. If a redesign is already planned, combining the migration and redesign usually avoids rebuilding the storefront twice.

Not sure which migration approach fits your store?

Will a migration cost me my organic traffic?

A Shopify migration does not automatically reduce organic traffic. Rankings usually drop when SEO-critical elements are moved without a clear migration plan.

A 301 redirect map should include 1:1 mappings for old URLs so every indexed page has a direct destination after launch.

1

That redirect map should be reviewed and tested before go-live, not created after traffic starts declining.

We include redirect mapping and post-launch monitoring in every migration because SEO preservation protects existing revenue.

On Biotrade, URL mapping and validation were completed before any records were migrated. After launch, we compare Google Search Console performance against the pre-migration baseline to identify indexing issues, redirect errors, and unexpected ranking changes.

2

SEO continuity depends on more than redirects. Metadata migration, structured data, internal linking, and content architecture determine how search engines and AI systems interpret your catalogue after the move.

As AI search becomes more important, product data quality becomes part of discoverability.

Clean metafields, structured specifications, and reusable content templates make products easier for both customers and AI systems to understand while giving merchandising teams a scalable content structure.

When reviewing a migration quote, ask how the agency approaches URL mapping, structured data, and post-launch validation. A successful migration preserves the search equity your business has already earned.

What each line item costs, and what scales it

A Shopify migration cost is the sum of multiple workstreams, from data migration and redirects to integrations and custom development. The biggest pricing differences come from what the scope includes, not just the size of the store.

Line item What scales the cost Where the estimate usually goes wrong
Base build Theme adaptation or custom development; number of unique templates Priced from a design nobody signed off, so change requests arrive in custom code
Data migration Data volume, and how many entities need data mapping: products, variants, customer data, orders, subscription data, app data, reviews, metafields, blog archive, files Volume gets counted, data shape does not. Non-standard fields and records with no clean identifier are the expensive part
Data preparation and data cleanup Duplicate products, duplicate customer accounts, inconsistent taxonomy Treated as our problem or nobody's. Data cleanup is crucial before migration and someone has to be paid for it
SEO preservation work Indexed URL count, meaningful organic traffic, and the structural distance between old and new URL patterns Accounts for $2,000 to $8,000 of a standard-store estimate and $5,000 to $15,000 where the URL surface is large. A share of the tier price, not an extra on top.
Third party integrations Number of connected systems, with a step change when no native connector exists Custom integrations quoted as configuration when they are engineering
Native rebuilds Each piece of platform-specific logic: discount rules, bundles, product options, pre-orders, B2B pricing Assumed to transfer. It does not. Each rule is a small custom feature
Internationalisation Number of markets, plus tax, duty, payment and catalogue configuration per market Treated as translation. Landed cost and fulfilment routing are the real work
Launch, UAT and post launch monitoring Cutover, catch-up sync, user acceptance testing, and the monitoring window after go-live Left out entirely, then invoiced as post launch support

The migration data behind our estimates

Client Current platform before Verified outcome What moved
Shelly Shopware, with SAP Migration completed; later bundle-label A/B test lifted conversion 11% and revenue per visitor 8% 500,000+ customer records; Shopify Plus architecture for 100+ markets
Takomo Legacy layered store 16% conversion increase, 43% site speed improvement, one storefront serving 195+ countries ~2,120 products, duplicates consolidated, five years of catalogue structure preserved; Global-e and custom Odoo ERP
PLAMEXS CloudCart 7% conversion increase after migration and redesign 900 orders, 1,500 customer accounts, 1,700 products, full blog archive
Biotrade WooCommerce 0% data loss, 12% average order value increase, 25+ markets Products, customer data and order history via Matrixify; URL mapping planned before any record moved
Enhance Auto Shoptico Migration completed with zero customer disruption Products, customers, orders and reviews; custom SmartERP connector co-developed because none existed
The Fashion Project Custom legacy platform Zero disruption to day-to-day operations Products, collections, customers and order history; custom Odoo inventory integration
Arthrofill WooCommerce Zero-downtime migration Customers, orders, purchase history, subscription data and legacy review data
FitSpo Plugin-heavy WordPress Zero-downtime migration, 30+ markets supported Products, order history and critical store data with structured mapping and validation
Uberlube WooCommerce 6.53% conversion increase, 40% faster, 99.99% uptime, 15 new countries Customers, products and order history into a two-store US and European architecture with Stripe
Pro Energetic Restrictive custom platform 43% faster page load, 38% more returning customers Full move to Shopify Plus, with loyalty, referral and affiliate programmes rebuilt
From craftberry's migration team

Record count is a weak predictor of cost. Shelly moved 500,000+ customer records in a Shopware to Shopify migration, PLAMEXS moved 1,500, and the gap between those projects was nothing like 300 times. What separated them was how many systems had to keep talking to each other afterwards.

The hidden costs most quotes leave out

  • The audit. A technical audit defines the real migration scope, identifies risks, and prevents unexpected changes later. The cheapest migration decision is understanding what needs to be done before development starts.
  • Data preparation. Duplicate products, customer records, and inconsistent taxonomy require cleanup before migration. On Takomo we consolidated duplicate data while preserving five years of catalogue structure.
  • Running two platforms in parallel. During migration, your current platform continues to generate hosting, licensing, and operational costs. For a four-month project, these ongoing expenses should be included in the migration budget.
  • Training and handover. A successful migration includes helping your team operate the new platform independently. We treat Shopify onboarding as part of the project.
  • Post-launch support. The few weeks after launch are when redirects are monitored, analytics are validated, and edge cases appear. Dedicated post-launch support is risk mitigation that protects SEO performance, tracking accuracy, and store stability.
  • App costs. The Shopify app stack becomes part of your ongoing operating costs. Subscription fees, integrations, and additional functionality should be evaluated during migration planning, not after launch.
Adobe Commerce lifecycle

Why 2027 is a deadline year for Adobe Commerce merchants?

If you are running Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source, migration planning now has a defined timeline.

Adobe has published lifecycle dates for supported Commerce versions, and from 1 June 2027 it will no longer maintain Cloud environments running unsupported versions or may decommission them.

Release End of standard support End of extended support End of security-only period Cloud upgrade enforcement
Adobe Commerce 2.4.4 12 April 2025 14 April 2026 31 May 2027 1 June 2027
Adobe Commerce 2.4.5 12 August 2025 12 August 2026 31 May 2027 1 June 2027
Adobe Commerce 2.4.6 11 August 2026 30 August 2027 31 May 2028 1 June 2028
Adobe Commerce 2.4.7 31 May 2027 31 May 2028 N/A 1 June 2028
Adobe Commerce 2.4.8 31 May 2028 TBD N/A TBD
Adobe Commerce 2.4.9 31 May 2029 TBD N/A TBD

Adobe states that the security-only period is a one-time exception and should be treated as migration planning time rather than an ongoing support tier. Merchants should also review infrastructure requirements, including PHP compatibility and PCI compliance responsibilities, as part of their migration assessment.

The decision is not simply Shopify versus Adobe Commerce cost. It is the cost of migrating to a new platform versus continuing an upgrade cycle that requires ongoing engineering resources. The internal time required to maintain, upgrade, and support the platform is often the cost factor teams underestimate.

For enterprise merchants, complex Adobe Commerce migrations require platform expertise. A Magento migration expert is worth more here than a generalist, because the highest-risk areas are rarely product catalogues.

They are accumulated business rules, custom pricing logic, bundles, product options, and integrations that need to be rebuilt for Shopify architecture rather than copied across.

Before requesting a migration quote, document your active workflows and custom functionality.

How to compare Shopify migration agencies and their quotes

Two quotes are rarely pricing the same scope of work. Before you compare the numbers, compare what each Shopify migration agency has actually included.

Ask every Shopify migration company on your shortlist these questions, including us.

  • Ask for relevant case studies in your industry, not just a portfolio of brand logos.
  • Ask them to explain their cutover process, including how orders placed during the final migration window are handled.
  • Ask who is responsible for the 301 redirect strategy and how redirects are validated before go-live.
  • Ask whether they have built custom integrations where no native Shopify connector existed, and request an example.
  • Ask how they structure product data, metadata, and structured data to support SEO and AI search.
  • If you're planning an enterprise migration, confirm Shopify Plus and Shopify Premier Partner status. Not every Shopify migration agency is a Shopify Plus migration agency.
  • Ask whether the project is delivered by an in-house team or relies on subcontractors.
  • Ask what happens if the technical audit uncovers additional complexity. A reliable migration quote should explain how scope changes are handled before the project begins.

"A portfolio shows what an agency has built. The migration process shows how they protect your business while rebuilding it."

When we are not the right fit

We believe the right migration partner depends on the complexity of the project, not simply the budget.

If your store falls into one of the categories below, you'll likely get better value from a different type of provider.

  • Brand-new, very small or hobbyist stores. That $2,000 to $15,000 band is real work, and it is better served elsewhere.
  • Single-product stores or simple theme changes. If the work is limited to a template update with no ERP, subscriptions, custom integrations, or complex data migration, a smaller implementation partner or a freelance Shopify migration expert is often the more cost-effective choice.
  • First-time ecommerce builds, where there is nothing to migrate. That is a store build and it is priced differently.
  • Shopify-to-Shopify theme rebuilds. Replacing or redesigning an existing Shopify theme is a different service from platform migration and is typically a much smaller project.

FAQ

Does Shopify charge a fee to migrate?

No. Shopify states it does not charge you to migrate, that migration is your responsibility, and that paid services are available for custom needs (Shopify Plus pricing, fetched 6 August 2026). Your total cost includes the team, tooling, and Shopify subscription from the day you start building.

How long does a Shopify migration take?

Shopify markets Plus replatforming as achievable in under 90 days. A self-managed migration on a small store takes 2 to 4 weeks. On agency-run projects a standard replatform runs 4 to 6 weeks, mid-market migrations 8 to 12 weeks, and a complex migration 3 to 6 months.

Professional agencies can complete migrations in 4-12 weeks. Our compressed launches were deliberate: 11 weeks for On Running's UAE store, 8 weeks for three vivo storefronts, 7 weeks for the initial Glowforge rebuild.

We deliberately allow time for validation, UAT, and live testing before launch. A realistic timeline reduces project risk, especially ahead of peak trading periods.

Will my customer accounts and order history come across?

Yes, and this normally defines the difficulty.

Migrating customer passwords is not possible due to encryption, so existing customers reset on first login, but accounts, historical order data, subscriptions and reviews all migrate.

On Arthrofill we moved a WooCommerce store with subscription data, reviews and full-purchase history preserved and no downtime, because a review widget that resets to zero on launch day is a conversion problem you paid to create.

Do I need Shopify Plus, or is Advanced enough?

Shopify Advanced is sufficient for many growing ecommerce businesses. Shopify Plus becomes the right choice when you need checkout customisation, B2B catalogues, expansion stores, Shopify Functions at scale, or when lower transaction fees justify the upgrade at your sales volume.

Our recommendation is based on your business requirements, not the plan itself. If Shopify Advanced supports your current and near-term goals, we'll recommend it over Shopify Plus.

Why do two agency quotes for the same store differ by three times?

Because they often cover different scopes of work. Compare each quote against the line items in this guide: data audit, redirect mapping, third-party integrations, platform-specific functionality, UAT, and post-launch support.

A lower quote is not necessarily better value if key workstreams are missing.

Should we hire a Shopify migration agency or do it in house?

It depends on the complexity of your migration.

If your catalogue is clean, integrations are limited, and your data is straightforward, an internal team using Shopify's CSV tools and a migration app can often manage the project.

Once ERP systems, subscriptions, multiple markets, or a large indexed URL footprint are involved, the challenge shifts from moving data to making the right technical decisions around mapping, redirects, and native functionality. That judgment is what Shopify migration experts are paid for.

A good rule of thumb: if your team already has a tested 1:1 redirect map and a documented cutover plan, an in-house migration may be the right choice. Otherwise, an experienced Shopify migration partner can help reduce implementation risk.

Do I need a Shopify Plus migration company specifically?

Only if you're migrating to Shopify Plus. Features such as checkout customisation, B2B catalogues, expansion stores, and Shopify Functions require experience with the Plus platform, so a Shopify Plus migration service should be able to point to them specifically.

Ask for examples of Shopify Plus projects the agency has delivered, and which Plus-specific capabilities were implemented. Shopify Plus migration experts answer that in specifics; a generalist answers in adjectives.

If your requirements don't include Plus-only features, a standard Shopify migration partner may be the better fit.

Can we phase the spend?

Often, yes. Migrating to an adapted theme first and redesigning later is a practical way to spread investment over time.

That approach works best when the current storefront is performing well. If poor UX or conversion is one of the reasons for migrating, delaying the redesign may simply postpone the expected business outcome.

Is my data secure during a migration?

It should be. Data should move through migration tools and secure integrations, not manual spreadsheets or ad hoc file transfers.

We manage the migration process in-house to maintain visibility and control from start to finish. Where no native integration exists, we build and validate a dedicated connector before any production data is migrated, as we did for Enhance Auto's SmartERP integration.

The bottom line

Shopify migration cost is determined by complexity, not catalogue size.

craftberry helps mid-market and enterprise brands move to Shopify without losing the systems, data, and revenue channels they have already built. Our Shopify migration service covers ERP integrations, multi-market setups, subscription data, SEO preservation, and custom Shopify development.

If you are moving from Adobe Commerce, Magento, WooCommerce, Shopware, or a custom platform, we can benchmark your project against real migration data and define the right scope before development starts.
